Menudo reunites with seven of its members and announces a tour

The Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, which was a global musical phenomenon, announced on Monday that it is celebrating its 50th anniversary by reuniting seven of its former members for a tour of the United States, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

Marking the first official reunion under the Menudo name, former band members René Farrait (1979–1982), Roy Rossello (1983–1986), Raymond Acevedo (1985–1988), Sergio Blass (1986–1990), Ralphy Rodríguez (1987), Rubén Gómez (1987–1990), and Robert Avellanet (1988–1991) will return to the stage to celebrate the group’s legacy.

As Menudo’s first official reunion tour, presented under the Menudo brand, “this celebration will pay tribute to the group’s 50-year legacy and its lasting impact on generations of fans, Latin music, and pop culture,” according to the statement.

During the “Menudo 50th Anniversary” tour, fans will have the chance to relive “Menudomania” as the group performs classic hits like “Súbete a Mi Moto,” “Claridad,” and “Quiero Ser.”

The tour will make stops in the U.S. cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Hollywood, as well as in Mexico City and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“More than just a show,” the press release emphasized, “the tour is ‘a celebration of Menudo’s 50th anniversary, honoring the lasting impact the group has had across generations and giving audiences the opportunity to reconnect with the music, memories, and nostalgia.'”

The tour will kick off at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on October 10 and will conclude on December 12 at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan.

Since its debut in 1977, Menudo—originally a children’s group—became a global phenomenon, releasing nearly 30 albums in various languages and earning Grammy nominations and selling out tours around the world.

The band has had numerous members over the years, with Ricky Martin and Robi Draco Rosa achieving the greatest international fame after leaving the group, according to Agencia EFE.
