Sheinbaum calls on El Tri to make history and inspire Mexicans

Ochoa will play his sixth World Cup

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, entrusted this Monday the members of the Mexican National Soccer Team to be the inspiration of millions of compatriots with their performance in the 2026 World Cup.

“May their example inspire millions of Mexicans in sports and to believe in the power of their dreams. Long live the National Team,” said the president at the team’s flag-raising ceremony.

Sheinbaum led the flag ceremony for the Mexican National Team prior to its presentation at the opening match of the World Cup.

This Thursday, June 11, against South Africa at the Azteca stadium, the venue that will host the world’s premier soccer tournament for the third time.

“To the Mexican National Team that will represent us in the 2026 FIFA World Cup I commend your patriotism to this flag that symbolizes your independence, honor, the institutions of our people and the integrity of your territory,” the president continued in her message.
