The Devil Wears Prada 2′ (‘The Devil wears Prada 2’) has topped the box office in its first weekend of release with $233 million grossed worldwide, including $77 million in the United States and Canada.
The film ranks as the fourth-best opening of the year and unseats ‘Michael’, which has reigned for two consecutive weeks, from the top spot, dropping to second place with a cumulative gross of $423 million.
The Devil Wears Prada 2′ (‘The Devil wears Prada 2’) has been placed as box office leader in Italy, Brazil, United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, China, Germany, Spain and South Korea, among other markets, according to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo.
The film, starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, started with high expectations and is a leap from the original film, which debuted in 2006 with only $27.5 million.
The first film was based on a novel by Auren Weisberg, who worked as an assistant to the then head of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour.
The sequel, which has seen the return of the director of the first installment, David Frankel, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, picks up the story two decades later, when Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), returns to the magazine as features editor under the direction of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

Reviews have been mixed – on Rotten Tomatoes it has a 78% – but audiences give it a solid ‘A-‘ in CinemaScore exit polls.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has benefited from the nostalgia of the original film, which has remained an intergenerational cultural reference over the years.
The rest of the podium is occupied by ‘Michael’ in second place; the Super Mario movie in third place, which adds $12.1 million in North America and reaches $894 million in worldwide grosses – $12.1 million grossed this weekend in North America.
This film is so far the best release of 2026.
‘Project Hail Mary’ (‘Project Salvation’) holds on to fourth place with $638 million accumulated since its release – $8.6 million grossed this weekend in North America.
In fifth place comes ‘Hokum’, the horror film starring Adama Scott, released this weekend in North America – 1,885 theaters – which has grossed US$6.4 million in its first weekend, reported Agencia EFE.
