The Los Angeles Dodgers kicked off the 2026 MLB season with a resounding 8-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium, reaffirming their status as defending champions after winning the 2025 World Series.
The team from Los Angeles had to come from behind on the scoreboard, but quickly showed why it is once again one of the favorites in the Major Leagues. Before a crowd of more than 53,000 fans, the Los Angeles ninth combined offensive power, discipline at the plate and solidity from the mound to win clearly.
Key game-changing comeback

Arizona took the lead in the fourth inning thanks to a home run by Geraldo Perdomo.
That also powered Corbin Carroll to make it momentarily 2-0.
However, the Dodgers’ response was not long in coming in this opening game of the 2026 season.
In the fifth inning, Dominican Andy Pagés hit a three-run homer to turn the score around.
Shortly thereafter, Will Smith scored one more to consolidate the comeback and completely change the dynamic of the game.
Offensive explosion in the last innings

The Dodgers extended the lead in the seventh inning with unstoppable offense.
Kyle Tucker produced a run with a double, Mookie Betts added another with a single and again Will Smith came through with a two-run home run that all but sealed the game.
This offensive display by the Dodgers made it clear that the team maintains the same potency that carried it to the title in 2025 and that it aspires to repeat in 2026.
