The entertainment world is in mourning after the death of actress Catherine O’Hara, internationally known for her roles in Home Alone, Beetlejuice and the successful series Schitt’s Creek. The Canadian actress passed away this Friday at the age of 71 in Los Angeles, California, according to TMZ.

So far, the official cause of her death has not been disclosed. However, Page Six reported that the actress was rushed in “serious condition” to a clinic hours before her death, which set off alarm bells among her fans and industry colleagues.

Catherine O’Hara: Emergency call at her residence

According to information provided by the Los Angeles Fire Department to the U.S. media, emergency services received a call from Catherine O’Hara’s residence at 4:48 a.m. The caller was taken to a medical center where she eventually died. After arriving at the scene, the actress was taken to a medical center, where she finally lost her life.

The agency that represented the actress, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), confirmed the death in a brief statement, in which they said that the Hollywood star died “after a brief illness”, without offering further details about her previous state of health or the exact circumstances of her death.

For its part, TMZ said that audio from the emergency services dispatch shows that O’Hara was “having difficulty breathing” before being taken to the clinic, suggesting that her condition deteriorated rapidly.

After the news broke, Page Six revealed that Catherine O’Hara suffered from an extremely rare disease known as situs inversus. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition affects approximately one in 10,000 people worldwide.

Situs inversus is characterized by the organs of the chest and abdomen developing in an inverted position with respect to the usual anatomy. This means that organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, stomach or spleen may be on the opposite side to the one they normally occupy.

For example, the left atrium of the heart and the left lung may be located on the right side of the chest, while the liver and gallbladder may be located on the left side of the abdomen. This condition, although uncommon, does not necessarily imply a reduced life expectancy.

A full life despite the diagnosis

Specialists point out that people with situs inversus can lead a completely normal life, as long as the condition is not associated with other health problems. However, when additional complications are present, the prognosis can vary significantly.

Throughout her life, Catherine O’Hara kept her medical condition out of the public eye, focusing on a strong and diverse artistic career that made her a beloved figure in both film and television.

With a career that spanned several decades, Catherine O’Hara leaves a legacy marked by her talent, versatility and charisma. Her work will continue to be remembered by generations of viewers who found humor, sensitivity and authenticity in her characters.
