In Mexican soccer, the show is not only on the field; sometimes, the real show (and drama) is in the dugouts. And let’s be honest: there are some Technical Directors who don’t like it. Whether they are arrogant, whiny, or simply feel like divas, Liga MX is full of “higaditos” (little livers).
But how far does the power of an angry dressing room go? In the most recent edition of Los Jefes Deportes, the sewer was uncovered and one of the biggest taboos in our football was put on the table: Do players really “make the bed” for their coaches?
Most hated DTs in Liga MX
The term is very much our own.
A “mamila” or “higadito” technician is one who is never at fault.
If they lose, it was the referee, it was the weather, or it was the press.
They are those coaches who give incendiary press conferences, who scold their players in public and who believe that the tactical system is more important than human talent.
In the program, the debate got out of control when questioning whether Liga MX recycles these characters too much.
We see the same faces managing different teams every six months, protected by promoters and owners, no matter how badly they fall or how broken they leave the locker room.
The myth (or reality) of “Tender the Bed”
For countrymen in the U.S. who may not follow day-to-day soccer gossip, “laying the bed” is when players, fed up with their coach’s treatment or arrogance, decide to purposely lower their performance.
It’s not that they lose willingly, but they stop running that extra mile, miss passes “unintentionally” and create a toxic environment until the board has no choice but to fire the coach.
The million-dollar question: Is this a betrayal of the T-shirt or a defense against an unbearable boss?
The Sports Chiefs don’t hold anything back
The panel questioned whether there are untouchable DTs.
Those who, no matter how much they fail or how much they “bleed” with the press and the fans, always find a job.
The discussion is open for discussion:
Who are the most unbearable technicians today?
Which teams do you suspect are playing half-heartedly to oust their boss?
If you want to see names, surnames and watch the chairs fly in this debate, you can’t miss the full episode.
