Cade Cowell, 22-year-old Mexican-American striker, confirmed his departure from Club Deportivo Guadalajara and will return to Major League Soccer(MLS) with the New York Red Bulls, in a move that could mark a turning point in his professional career.
The Ceres, California-born winger made his professional debut in MLS with the San Jose Earthquakes, where he established himself as one of the promises of U.S. soccer before signing with Chivas in 2024. After two seasons in Mexico, his arrival at the Rebaño did not fully meet expectations, so the club and the player agreed on a one-year loan with an option to buy so he can see action again in the U.S. league. Through an official press release, the New York Red Bulls presented Cowell as their new reinforcement for the 2026 season, highlighting his speed, dynamism and capacity for offensive overflow as key pieces for the scheme to be implemented by coach Michael Bradley under the sporting vision of director Julián de Guzmán.
What this return to MLS means

For many fans and analysts, Cade Cowell’s return to MLS not only represents a return to his soccer roots.
It is also an opportunity to recover the level that led him to be considered a jewel of U.S. soccer.
With the San Jose Earthquakes, Cade Cowell made more than 100 appearances in the league, and has also been called up to the United States National Team (USMNT), where he recorded several international caps.
At Chivas, the player had some outstanding moments, including important goals, but he never managed to establish himself as a regular starter under coach Gabriel Milito.
He accumulated more modest statistics compared to his time in MLS.
Returning to the Red Bulls offers a familiar and competitive environment where he can seek more minutes and regain his best physical and soccer form.
Impact for the player and the national team
