Nineteen years after the murder of Valentín Elizalde, the subject has been brought back into the public eye by recent statements made by his brother, Francisco Elizalde, who assured that the process to clarify what happened is still open.

In an interview with Ventaneando, the singer explained that his family continues to search for answers and that, in fact, they have a recent expert report that could provide important elements to close the case.

During his conversation with the show program, Francisco confirmed that the expert study is already concluded and that it is in the hands of his family, particularly his mother, Mrs. Camila Valencia.

He expressed it in direct terms: the expert opinion “is already given” and “we have it in hand”, and added that what would be missing to close the file would be “certain little things” and some pending interviews.

Although Francisco admitted knowing some of this information, he was careful to point out that the best person to go deeper into the content is his mother. He said that she is the one who can best explain what is being raised there and why it is relevant after so many years.

The doubt that reopens the conversation: Was Tano Elizalde really in the van?

In the same media context, mention has been made of one of the most delicate points that, according to Ventaneando, would emerge from this expert opinion: the possibility that Fausto “Tano” Elizalde, Valentín’s cousin, had not been in the van that was attacked on the night of the murder.

This is particularly sensitive because, according to the version known for years, Tano was the only survivor of the attack in which Valentín, his driver and his manager were killed. If this part is called into question, it inevitably raises questions about the exact sequence of events.

The context of the murder of Valentín Elizalde

The crime occurred in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, in the early morning of November 25, 2006, after Valentín Elizalde had performed at the palenque of the Reynosa Expo-Feria.

Minutes after leaving the place, the van in which he was traveling was attacked by an armed group. That episode marked a before and after for Mexican regional music and, since then, has been surrounded by versions, theories and speculations.

Interest grew in recent weeks because Tano Elizalde gave statements on the podcast La Funa, in which he addressed the moments prior to the attack and denied a much-repeated version: that the attack was triggered because Valentín sang the corrido “A mis enemigos” (To my enemies).

In that space, Tano affirmed that “he was never forbidden to sing that corrido” and maintained that it was not directed to a particular person. These statements were taken up by media such as Infobae, which amplified the conversation.

With the recent expert opinion mentioned by Francisco, and with new public interviews such as that of Tano, the case is once again gaining momentum in the public opinion.

The family, according to Francisco himself, maintains the intention of clarifying what happened and, although almost a generation has passed since that early morning, the name of Valentín Elizalde continues to be associated with a question that will not be extinguished: what really happened that night in Reynosa.
