Venezuelan artist Danny Ocean opened the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, where the award will be presented to his compatriot, opposition leader María Corina Machado, who is traveling to Norway but will not be present at the gala.
“I was born on this shore. From the vibrating Arauca”, he began to sing lyrically and accompanied by a Danny Ocean piano, covering the traditional song ‘Alma Llanera’, which has become a second Venezuelan anthem.
Danny Ocean, who became famous with his ‘Me rehúso’, which speaks of the pain of migrating and leaving a love behind and therefore considered one of the songs of exile, is one of the artists chosen for the gala, which will also feature the pianist Gabriela Montero, who will perform ‘Mi querencia’, by Simón Díaz.

The gala began with the notable absence of the laureate, who assured in a telephone conversation from an unknown location with the Nobel Institute that she will not be able to arrive in time for the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, but assured that she will arrive in Oslo and is in fact “on her way right now”.
The gala is attended by several Latin American presidents, reported Agencia EFE, including Argentina’s Javier Milei, Panama’s José Raúl Mulino and Paraguay’s Santiago Peña, as well as Venezuelan opposition figures, members of the global right wing and relatives of the opposition leader.
