The seventh installment of the ‘Scream’ saga made history on Thursday by grossing $7.8 million in its preview performances, the franchise’s highest figure to date.
The big-screen debut positions the horror film as the most successful release in the brand’s history, surpassing ‘Scream VI,’ which grossed 5.7 million in previews, Deadline reported Friday.
The new film in one of cinema’s most iconic horror sagas is expected to collect between $50 million and $60 million at the domestic box office, and could surpass its predecessor, which grossed $44 million at the U.S. box office.
Scream 7 to break box office records in theaters this weekend

Even so, these figures are a far cry from the furor caused by the first installment, which holds the record as the franchise with the highest international box office takings with more than $173 million. It is followed by ‘Scream 2’, with 172 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
According to Agencia EFE, ‘Scream 7’ features the return of Neve Campbell, its original leading lady, and Courteney Cox, one of the stars of the well-known TV series ‘Friends’, in her role as investigative reporter Gale Weathers, as well as Mason Gooding, playing Chad Meeks-Martin.
