1\/3 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CTiRf6lmIb\">pic.twitter.com\/CTiRf6lmIb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; USCIS Spanish (@USCIS_es)  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USCIS_es\/status\/1983535730157555743?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 29, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nDuring the Joe Biden administration, the government had extended in 2024 the automatic extension period for employment permits from 180 to 540 days, a measure that sought to prevent the loss of employment of thousands of legally authorized immigrants while waiting for the renewal of their document.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) was facing a record number of applications, with delays of up to six months in some cases.<\/p>\n<p>This policy allowed employers to keep their workers without interruption and reduced the risk of unjustified dismissals due to administrative delays.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new rule, anyone applying for a renewal after October 30 must wait for formal approval from USCIS before continuing to work legally, except for limited exceptions provided for in the law or in notices published in the Federal Register.<\/p>\n<h2>Limited exceptions in work permits<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_94144\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94144\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-94144\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/permiso-trabajo-shutterstock_1110448589.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"697\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-94144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO: Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>DHS clarified that certain categories, such as Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries from countries with existing designations, may retain specific extensions announced publicly by the government.<\/p>\n<p>However, outside of these exceptions, the general policy of automatic extension will be completely eliminated.<\/p>\n<p>According to USCIS Director Joseph Edlow, the measure seeks to &#8220;prioritize national security and the integrity of the immigration system&#8221; over administrative convenience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;USCIS is placing a renewed emphasis on comprehensive background checks, eliminating policies that prioritized the convenience of foreign nationals over the safety of Americans,&#8221;
