This Sunday, August 3, the second day of the Leagues Cup 2025 was played, once again pitting 18 Liga MX teams against 18 MLS<\/a> teams.<\/p>\n

Four Mexican clubs advanced with penalty shootout victories, while one won in regular time.<\/p>\n

Liga MX teams took the lead in their series after 90-minute draws on the second day of the Leagues Cup:<\/p>\n

FC Juarez came from 2-0 down to beat FC Cincinnati 4-3 from 11 penalty kicks.<\/p>\n

Chivas Guadalajara drew 2-2 with Charlotte FC and won 4-2 on penalties.<\/p>\n

Monterrey tied 1-1 with New York Red Bulls and won the shootout 5-3.<\/p>\n

Cruz Azul tied LA Galaxy 1-1 and won a long penalty shootout session 8-7, thanks to two key saves by Kevin Mier.<\/p>\n

Tijuana achieves victory in regular time<\/h2>\n

Club Tijuana was the only Mexican team to win all three points in 90 official minutes.<\/p>\n

With goals from Jackson Porozo and Ramiro \u00c1rciga, they defeated Colorado Rapids 2-1, earning a valuable victory that keeps their qualification hopes alive.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Santos Laguna was the only Liga MX team not to score points on Sunday in the second day of the Leagues Cup.<\/p>\n

They lost 2-1 to the Seattle Sounders, with an own goal by Haret Ortega and a goal by Georgi Minoungou, who was later sent off.<\/p>\n

Cristian D\u00e1jome scored the second goal in stoppage time.<\/p>\n

Despite Mexico’s good performance on penalties and Tijuana’s win, several clubs have complicated their path to the round of 16.<\/p>\n

Next day’s matches will determine which four Mexican teams qualify for the knockout stage, as only the top four teams from each league advance to the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
