It was very traumatic,\u201d the manager told the local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/06\/01\/agentes-de-ice-realizan-redada-en-buona-forchetta-un-popular-restaurante-de-san-diego\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Union Tribune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-7\">He indicated that at least three workers were detained for not presenting valid identification and that other employees left the site in a state of shock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-7\">The restaurant, which had multiple reservations that night, had to close.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-8\">The scene, described by witnesses as chaotic, was documented by residents who gathered to support personnel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-8\">According to Efe news agency, the agents detained three Mexican workers in the raid, but all those present confronted them and, while the officers retreated to their vehicles, the restaurant&#8217;s customers followed them while shouting at them to leave and recording with cell phones, images that went viral.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-8\">In a video posted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CBSNews\/videos\/724996213370462\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS San Diego<\/a>, local residents can be seen chanting \u201cShame!\u201d as ICE raided the Italian restaurant.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ai-optimize-9\">Criticism from the mayor and congressmen<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47150\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47150\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47150\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/redada-restaurante-san-diego-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"653\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47150\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ICE raids San Diego restaurant \/ PHOTO: Video screen capture<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-9\">San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria harshly criticized the raid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-9\">\u201cThese types of actions do not generate security, but fear. I raised my objections directly with the Homeland Security Investigations directorate and will continue to stand up for the rights of everyone in our city,\u201d he said in a statement Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-10\">Federal Congressmen Juan Vargas, Scott Peters and Sara Jacobs, all representing the San Diego area, condemned the operation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-10\">Vargas called it a \u201cgrave mistake,\u201d noting that it was a tactical weapons raid on a family restaurant full of diners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-10\">\u201cIt was neither the place nor the time,\u201d stated Juan Vargas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-11\">Scott Peters charged that ICE failed to keep its promise to target dangerous criminals and instead detained kitchen and janitorial workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-11\">In addition, the legislators indicated that this operation would have been authorized by federal authorities, possibly under the influence of conservative advisor Stephen Miller, with a goal of 3,000 arrests per day.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ai-optimize-12\">Protests and community support<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47148\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47148\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47148 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/redada-restaurante-san-diego-02.jpg\" alt=\"San Diego restaurant raid, Raid, San Diego restaurant, ICE, San Diego, Qu\u00e9Onnda\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1658\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ICE raids San Diego restaurant \/ PHOTO: Video screen capture<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-12\">On Saturday, dozens of people demonstrated outside Buona Forchetta with banners and messages of support for the workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-12\">The owner of the restaurant, Matteo Cattaneo, said he was in shock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-12\">\u201cIt was crazy. I don&#8217;t understand why these people were taken away. We want to do the right thing and support our employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-13\">Cattaneo assured that all his workers have submitted legal documents, although he acknowledged that \u201cno one can know for sure\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-13\">Buona Forchetta reopened on Saturday, but other branches decided to close temporarily.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ai-optimize-14\">Legal and constitutional concerns<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-17\">\n\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-14\">The congressmen emphasized that detaining people without charges constitutes a possible violation of the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which protects against arbitrary detention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-14\">They blamed the federal court that authorized the operation for the \u201cchaos unleashed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-15\">The incident, widely reported in the media and social networks, has once again ignited the debate about the use of ICE&#8217;s power in public places and the need to safeguard the dignity of <a href=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/en\/ice-raid-in-new-orleans-15-migrants-detained-after-trying-to-flee-through-trees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">immigrant workers<\/a> in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ai-optimize-18\"><figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p style=\"color: #fd9737;\">Fue una locura.
