Losses were widespread, especially in technology, energy and retail.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/es\/market-activity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nasdaq<\/a> index retreated 5.97 %, the S&amp;P 500 fell 4.84 % and the Dow Jones lost 3.98 %, according to preliminary closing data. These figures represent one of the largest declines so far this year, driven by fears of a possible economic recession stemming from an escalation in the global trade war.<\/p>\n<h2><!--more--><\/h2>\n<h2>More aggressive tariffs<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25149\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25149\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25149\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/wall-street-2.jpg\" alt=\"Wall Street\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25149\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO: Envato<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Trump dubbed the day &#8220;Liberation Day,&#8221; and announced tariffs of at least 10% on 184 countries and territories, including key partners such as the European Union, China, Japan and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, the rates were even higher:<\/p>\n<p>34 % for China<\/p>\n<p>24 % for Japan<\/p>\n<p>31 % for Switzerland<\/p>\n<p>20 % for the European Union<\/p>\n<p>18 % for Nicaragua<\/p>\n<p>Experts such as Tom Cahill, of Ventura Wealth Management, explained that these tariffs &#8220;were more severe than the market anticipated&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Also, that it is still difficult to calculate its full impact on the economy and corporate profits.<\/p>\n<h2>The hardest hit<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25151\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25151\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/wall-street-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO: Envato<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Large technology companies were the hardest hit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p style=\"color: #fd9737;\">The losses were widespread<\/p><cite>QueOnnda.com<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<p>Apple and Amazon lost more than 8.9%, while Nike and Macy&#8217;s, which rely on Asian imports, also suffered significant declines.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The market is not overreacting,&#8221; Cahill said. &#8220;There are too many unanswered questions and that creates uncertainty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Fear of recession<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25153\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25153\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25153\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/wall-street-4.jpg\" alt=\"Wall Street\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25153\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO: Envato<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Adam Sarhan, analyst at 50 Park Investments, warned that these tariffs could have a double negative effect:<\/p>\n<p>Reduction of corporate profits and increase in inflation.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he believes that a recession in the US is now a real possibility, given the bearish market trend, as occurred in the Wall Street stock market.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The market is a reflection of the future,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And in many cases, recessions follow a bear market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you have investments or retirement accounts, consult your financial advisor.<\/p>\n<p>In times of high volatility, diversifying and staying informed is key.<\/p>\n<p>It is also important to understand how these changes may affect your employment or commodity prices.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QueOnnda.com.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Wall Street stock market closed Thursday with sharp declines that have shaken investor confidence, following the announcement of a new round of trade tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, who is once again leading the Republican presidential campaign.
