The Los Angeles Dodgers have started the 2025 season with a historic mark: eight consecutive wins, the best start for a defending champion team in the 149-year history of Major League Baseball<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The California team broke a record that had remained intact since 1933, when the New York Yankees, led by legends such as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, began the season with seven wins. The Dodgers surpassed that figure by defeating the Atlanta Braves 6-5, thanks to a walk-off homerun by Shohei Ohtani, in front of more than 50,000 fans at Dodger Stadium.<\/p>\n

The game started off uphill for the Dodgers, who were down 0-5 in the first few innings.<\/p>\n

But the team, led by Dave Roberts, bounced back with determination. “I didn’t recognize our team at first, but we found a way to win,” the manager said after the game.<\/p>\n

The decisive play came in the ninth inning: Ohtani hit a spectacular home run to seal the victory.<\/p>\n

The date was already special: fans received a commemorative MVP 2024 bobblehead, and the Japanese star responded with a memorable performance.<\/p>\n

The previous record belonged to the 1933 Yankees, who started 7-0 before losing their eighth game in Washington.<\/p>\n

That team had a Babe Ruth in the twilight of his career and a Lou Gehrig in full swing.<\/p>\n

Now, the 2025 Dodgers have rewritten that history and are on their way to a possible new milestone:<\/p>\n

Match or exceed the all-time record of 13-0, which is shared by the Braves (1982), Brewers (1987) and Rays (2023).<\/p>\n

Neither of those teams won the World Series that year, but the Dodgers want to change that.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers will now face the Philadelphia Phillies and then the Washington Nationals in a key East Coast series.<\/p>\n

The goal: remain undefeated and close in on the best start to a season in MLB history.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres also started strong at 7-0, marking only the fifth time two teams have started undefeated in the same season.<\/p>\n
