The film won the Crystal Bear from the Youth Jury and the Grand Prize from the International Jury for Best Film in the Generation section at the Berlinale.<\/p>\n<p>Also at the Berlinale, in the official competition, Eimbcke\u2019s *Moscas* was screened\u2014a tender black-and-white story about the relationship between a boy and a woman in Mexico City, while the boy\u2019s mother is in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Also coming off its screening at the Berlin Film Festival is *Narciso*, Marcelo Martinessi\u2019s second feature film\u2014a portrait of Paraguayan society at the dawn of an authoritarian regime, in which rock &#038; roll and radio become disruptive forces.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_189708\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-189708\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-189708 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/nuevaonda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Captura-de-pantalla-2026-07-17-a-las-11.41.42.jpg\" alt=\"Films from Mexico, Chile, and Paraguay will compete in Horizontes Latinos\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1851\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-189708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PHOTO: IMDB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cCeniza en la boca,\u201d Diego Luna\u2019s directorial debut, was screened at a special showing at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is an adaptation of Brenda Navarro\u2019s novel of the same name, which explores themes of family, identity, and migration through the journey of two brothers traveling from Mexico to Spain to reunite with their mother.<\/p>\n<p>And *El deshielo* (The Thaw), with which Martelli competed in the \u201cUn Certain Regard\u201d section at Cannes, is a tense story about the disappearance of a tourist, through which the director allegorically addresses one of her country\u2019s deepest wounds: the disappearances that occurred during Augusto Pinochet\u2019s military dictatorship.<\/p>\n<h2>Five of the films are co-produced with Spain<\/h2>\n<p>There are five feature films that are Spanish co-productions, as noted by the festival director, Jos\u00e9 Luis Rebordinos, and the deputy director and incoming head of the San Sebasti\u00e1n Film Festival, Maialen Beloki, at an event held at the Film Academy\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Fernando Trueba\u2019s new film *Baja\u00f1\u00ed* will be screened in the official but out-of-competition section.
