Mexican baseball continues to make headlines, as Sinaloa-born pitcher Luis Enrique Gast\u00e9lum Ca\u00f1edo was called up to the St. Louis Cardinals\u2019 roster\u2014an opportunity that brings him very close to becoming the 155th Mexican player to make his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old reliever, a native of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, was promoted to the St. Louis big league team after an outstanding season in Triple-A, where he demonstrated the level of play the organization had expected from him ever since signing him in 2023.<\/p>\n

Born on September 27, 2001, in Los Mochis, Luis Enrique Gast\u00e9lum is a 1.88-meter-tall right-handed pitcher known for his fastball.<\/p>\n

An effective changeup and breaking pitches that allow him to dominate batters from both sides of the plate.<\/p>\n

His professional career began with the Ca\u00f1eros de Los Mochis in the ARCO Mexican Pacific League during the 2021\u201322 season, when he was just 19 years old.<\/p>\n

A year later, he was part of the team that won the 2022\u201323 season championship by defeating the Algodoneros de Guasave.<\/p>\n

In the Mexican Baseball League, he plays for the Algodoneros de Uni\u00f3n Laguna, the organization with which he has continued to develop (Filed under: Luis Enrique Gast\u00e9lum joins the MLB).<\/p>\n

His great season in Triple-A opened the door<\/h2>\n

In Triple-A, he posted a 2.27 ERA over 43.2 innings, pitching exclusively in relief.<\/p>\n

In addition, he struck out 49 batters, walked just 17, and allowed only two home runs.<\/p>\n

His stats convinced the Cardinals to give him a chance to join the Major League<\/a> roster.<\/p>\n

Now all that’s left is to wait for the manager to decide to bring in Luis Enrique Gast\u00e9lum to make his long-awaited MLB debut.<\/p>\n

His selection for the World Baseball Classic and now his call-up to the Major Leagues confirm the progress he has made in just a few years.<\/p>\n
