The Chicago Cubs are enjoying their best stretch of the 2026 season, and they proved it with an offensive display that will go down in the history books. The team crushed the San Diego Padres 23-3 at Wrigley Field<\/a> with an impressive display of eight home runs, a performance led by Dansby Swanson, who hit three home runs for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n

The victory confirmed the Cubs’ impressive turnaround; just a few weeks ago, they were trying to bounce back from a 10-game losing streak, and now they are once again emerging as one of the top contenders in the National League Central Division.<\/p>\n

With this win, the Cubs have now won 15 of their last 19 games and completed their third consecutive sweep.<\/p>\n

From the very first inning, they made it clear that there would be no room for surprises.<\/p>\n

Seiya Suzuki opened the scoring with a three-run home run, the 100th of his Major League career.<\/p>\n

With that total, the Japanese outfielder became only the fourth player born in Japan to hit 100 home runs in MLB.<\/p>\n

Joining Hideki Matsui, Ichiro Suzuki, and Shohei Ohtani.<\/p>\n

Dansby Swanson Turns His Season Around<\/h2>\n

After a rough start to the season, Dansby Swanson is enjoying one of the best stretches of his career.<\/p>\n

The shortstop entered June 20 with modest offensive numbers of .183\/.292\/.325.<\/p>\n

But since then, he has made a spectacular recovery.<\/p>\n

A day after hitting two home runs against San Diego, Swanson was back on fire at the plate and hit three home runs, including a grand slam in the eighth inning.<\/p>\n

With that, he recorded the first three-home-run game of his career and became only the ninth Cubs player since 1900 to hit multiple home runs in consecutive games.<\/p>\n

In addition, he is the first Chicago player to achieve this feat since Patrick Wisdom, who did so in August 2021 (Filed under: Chicago Cubs Rout the Padres).<\/p>\n
