The fifth installment of the “Toy Story” franchise topped the box office this past weekend with a global gross of $312 million, of which $160 million came from the United States alone following its release, according to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo.<\/p>\n

Its opening weekend box office<\/a> in the United States is the highest of 2026 to date, surpassing the film *Super Mario Bros. Galaxy*, which grossed $130.9 million on its first day in April. (It opened two days early due to the Easter holiday and reached $190.1 million in five days), according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). <\/p>\n

It also sets a new record for the franchise, surpassing the $120.9 million earned by “Toy Story 4” on its opening weekend in 2019.<\/p>\n

“Disclosure Day,” Steven Spielberg’s new film, has dropped to second place in the box office rankings with weekend earnings of 17 million, though it has already grossed a total of 160 million since its release.<\/p>\n

In its first weekend in theaters, Spielberg’s alien movie, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, had already grossed $92.8 million at the box office.<\/p>\n

“Obsession” has grossed another $14.2 million in recent days, bringing the independent film’s worldwide box office total to $333 million.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top 3 is the low-budget horror film *Backrooms* with 7.3 million, bringing its total box office to 272 million, while ‘Scary Movie,’ the sixth installment in this horror-comedy franchise, took in 6.7 million, bringing its worldwide gross to date to 201 million since its release on June 5, according to Agencia EFE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
