The Mexican National Team<\/a> once again found itself at the center of controversy in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup. Javier Aguirre, current coach of El Tri, decided to call up several players in advance to begin preparation work at the High Performance Center (CAR), but days later it was revealed that several of those players will be allowed to temporarily leave the training camp over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The measure provoked criticism among fans and analysts, especially because some players left their clubs in the middle of the Liguilla and international commitments. The debate grew even more heated after it became known that several selected players will not return to their teams to play official matches, but will only have days off.<\/p>\n

Alexis Vega and Gallardo ignited controversy<\/h2>\n

The situation began when Alexis Vega and Jes\u00fas Gallardo<\/strong> remained training with Toluca while the Mexican National Team was already working at the CAR.<\/p>\n

Both players had important participation with the Diablos Rojos in the Concachampions, so there were expectations as to whether they would be able to stay with their club before joining El Tri.<\/p>\n

However, Javier Aguirre decided to maintain his firm stance and requested the immediate presence of all those called up for the national training camp.<\/p>\n

The decision took force after comments made by Amaury Vergara.<\/p>\n

According to sports reports in Mexico, several selected players will temporarily leave the training camp this weekend.<\/p>\n

Among the players mentioned are Chivas players such as Roberto Alvarado, Erick Gutierrez, Luis Romo, Raul Rangel and Bryan Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

Players such as Erik Lira<\/strong>, from Cruz Azul; Guillermo Mart\u00ednez, from Pumas; and Israel Reyes, from Am\u00e9rica, would also be allowed to play.<\/p>\n

The controversy increased because those days off will not be used to rejoin the Liguilla.<\/p>\n

Beyond the controversy, Javier Aguirre’s coaching staff is looking to build a solid foundation for the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Mexico will host the tournament along with the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n

The coach’s intention is to strengthen internal coexistence and begin to consolidate a competitive group both on and off the field.<\/p>\n

The Mexican National Team has already confirmed several friendly preparation matches:<\/p>\n

Mexico vs Ghana<\/strong> – May 22, 2026 in Puebla, Mexico
\nMexico vs Australia<\/strong> – May 30, 2026 at the Rose Bowl in California
