U.S. President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to 37%, its lowest level in the Pew Research Center survey, which also revealed Thursday that half of Americans think his administration has turned out “worse than they expected.”<\/p>\n

Trump’s popularity in January, who even lost support among Republicans, stood below 40%, according to the demographic center’s latest measurement in September, on top of the 38% recorded in August, which then marked the lowest level since the start of his second term in January 2025, the report detailed.<\/p>\n

Trump’s approval falls<\/h2>\n

Disapproval of his administration rose to 61%, while 50% considered that his actions have been “worse than expected” and 52% expressed support for “few or none” of his policies.<\/p>\n

In contrast, only about one in five, 21%, thought his administration has been “better than expected”, and 27% expressed support for “all or most” of his policies.<\/p>\n

“The drop in support has come exclusively from Republicans. Last year, 67% said they supported all or most of Trump’s plans and policies. Today, 56% do,” the Pew Research Center<\/a> report indicated.<\/p>\n

Republicans’ confidence in Trump’s qualities also fell, with less than half of the president’s party supporters, 42%, expressing “extremely or very confident” that the president “acts ethically,” down from 55% a year earlier.<\/p>\n

The proportion of Republicans who have confidence in his “respect for democratic norms” also fell to 52% and the proportion of those who think he has the mental capacity for his job fell to 66%.<\/p>\n

When considering the general population, 51% stated that they “do not trust at all or very much” in the president’s leadership capacity, while 50% said the same about his physical health.<\/p>\n

In addition, 61% of Republicans think their party’s congressmen “have no obligation to support Trump if they disagree with him” versus 55% a year ago.<\/p>\n

And now 82% of Democrats believe their representatives in Congress “should stand up to Trump, even if it makes it harder to address the issues,” up from 70% who felt the same way a year ago.<\/p>\n

The poll comes after Trump opened campaigning for next November’s midterm elections Tuesday with a rally in Iowa, in the midst of a crisis over the two U.S. protesters gunned down by immigration agents in Minneapolis<\/a>, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

The poll was conducted by telephone and online from Jan. 20-26 among 8,512 adults, with a margin of error of 1.4 percent and a 95 percent confidence level.<\/p>\n
