If you’ve logged on to TikTok lately, you’ve probably seen hundreds of people boiling rosemary sprigs in their kitchen, swearing it’s the secret to stopping hair loss and having a Rapunzel mane. They call it the “Natural Minoxidil”.<\/p>\n

But is this just another urban myth or can a $2 herb really compete with the number one drug against baldness? We did some research and the answer will surprise you: It is not placebo, it does work, but there are “fine print”.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What the famous study says (2015)<\/h2>\n

The fame of rosemary is not invented.<\/p>\n

It comes from a comparative clinical study conducted in 2015 (published in SKINmed<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Scientists put rosemary oil in competition with 2% Minoxidil.<\/p>\n

The result? After 6 months of daily use, both groups showed a significant and almost identical increase in the amount of new hair.<\/p>\n

The bonus point for rosemary: It caused much less itching and dry scalp than the chemical medication.<\/p>\n

Why does it work?<\/h2>\n

Rosemary is rich in carnosic acid, a compound that has two superpowers:<\/p>\n

Improves blood circulation: Like Minoxidil, it dilates the blood vessels in the scalp, allowing more nutrients to reach the follicle.<\/p>\n

Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant: Soothes irritated scalp and fights free radicals that age your hair.<\/p>\n

Does it block DHT? There are indications that it may help block dihydrotestosterone (the hormone to blame for male<\/a> and female baldness), although here Minoxidil remains the potential king.<\/p>\n

The right recipe (not just boil and go)<\/h2>\n

For it to work, you need consistency. You won’t see results in a week.<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/strong> 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary (dried rosemary loses potency) and 2 cups of water.<\/p>\n

Preparation:<\/strong> Boil the water, add the rosemary, turn off the heat and cover the pot. Let it stand until it cools completely (this prevents the essential oils from evaporating).<\/p>\n

Application:<\/strong> Strain the liquid (it should be dark amber in color), put it in a spray bottle and spray on the scalp every night, massaging for 5 minutes.<\/p>\n

Shelf life:<\/strong> Store in the refrigerator for a maximum of 1 week. After that, it loses effect and breeds bacteria.<\/p>\n

The verdict: Rosemary or pharmacy?<\/h2>\n

If you have advanced or severe genetic baldness, Minoxidil 5% (prescribed by a dermatologist) remains the most potent and fastest option.<\/p>\n

But if your hair loss is due to stress, postpartum, or you simply want more density and shine without harsh chemicals, rosemary water is a legitimate, inexpensive and effective option.<\/p>\n
