The podcast Alquimia Interior, hosted by renowned communicator and emotional therapist Paty Leal, premiered a new episode that delves into one of the most painful and difficult topics to address within Latino families: growing up with an alcoholic parent. Under the title “Growing up with an alcoholic father: violence, role reversal and the path to break the pattern”, the conversation of Alquimia Interior presents the testimony of Wendy, a woman who today is a therapist but who in her childhood experienced first-hand the devastating effects of alcoholism in her home.<\/p>\n

Wendy recounts how, from a very young age, the family dynamics were marked by violence, uncertainty and lack of emotional stability due to her father’s problematic alcohol consumption.<\/p>\n

Over time, the situation became so chaotic that the roles within the household were completely reversed: she ended up becoming her own father’s caregiver, while her mother remained on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

Assaults, accidents, social isolation and codependency marked his early years.<\/p>\n

This normalization of chaos left deep imprints on her that later manifested themselves in her relationships, repeating patterns that she now, as an adult and therapist, recognizes as warning signs.<\/p>\n
