Stray Kids and BTS will be in Mexico, confirms Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed on Thursday that BTS, one of the world’s most popular K-pop groups, will return to Mexico in 2027, following the state visit by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, during which the two leaders agreed to expand bilateral cultural exchanges.

“Tomorrow, the group Stray Kids will perform in our country, and we also look forward to BTS’s return to Mexico in 2027,” the president said during a joint address at the National Palace.

The Mexican president had already announced last May that the seven members of BTS had accepted her proposal to return to the country in 2027, although no dates or venue for the performances have been announced yet.

At that time, Sheinbaum welcomed RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook at the National Palace. They were in Mexico as part of their world tour and attended a gathering at the president’s residence that drew nearly 50,000 fans to the Zócalo in Mexico City.

The K-pop phenomenon, according to both leaders, was also a topic of discussion during their meeting on Thursday, during which they adopted the Mexico-Korea Action Plan 2026–2030 and signed agreements in various areas, including culture and education.

“Mexican youth’s enthusiasm for K-pop and Korean cuisine is a sign of the growing closeness between our peoples,” Sheinbaum said.

In addition, the Mexican leader revealed that both governments are exploring the possibility of establishing a center in Mexico dedicated to K-Pop culture—including music and other artistic and cultural activities—as well as creating an institute for Mexican culture in South Korea.

Lee, for his part, highlighted Mexico’s growing interest in South Korean culture, such as K-pop, cuisine, and the beauty industry, and announced the creation this year of a working group to promote content co-production and talent development, according to Agencia EFE.
