Seattle Sounders Win Again: Musovski and Rusnák Sink Real Salt Lake

Seattle Sounders FC finally celebrated another MLS victory. With goals from Danny Musovski and Albert Rusnák, Brian Schmetzer’s team defeated Real Salt Lake 2-0 on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Lumen Field and earned three particularly valuable points in the final stretch of the regular season.

The result allowed Seattle to snap a 13-game winless streak in MLS. Their previous league victory had come on May 13, when they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2. The Sounders finished the match with a record of 8-9-8 and 32 points, placing them in 10th place in the Western Conference. The standout offensive player was Paul Arriola, who directly contributed to both goals with a pair of assists.

After a scoreless first half, Seattle quickly took the lead after returning from halftime.

In the 48th minute, Arriola received the ball in the middle and played it out to the right to Danny Musovski.

He shot with his right foot from outside the box and placed the ball in the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

It was Musovski’s fifth goal in all competitions in 2026 and his second in MLS.

Seattle sealed the victory in the 73rd minute.

After regaining possession, the Sounders pushed forward into the opponent’s box, and Arriola once again set up a goal, this time for Albert Rusnák, who finished with his right foot to seal the 2-0 victory.

For Arriola, those were his first two assists of the season across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Rusnák has scored seven goals across all competitions, tying for the team lead.

Goalkeeper Andrew Thomas also had a standout night, recording his seventh shutout of 2026 and his fifth in MLS (Filed under: Seattle Sounders snap their losing streak against Real Salt Lake).

Real Salt Lake’s Crisis Deepens

While the victory was a relief for the Seattle Sounders, the result had the opposite effect on Real Salt Lake.

RSL finished with a record of 8-13-5 and 29 points, extending its winless streak in MLS to 13 consecutive games.

This is the longest streak in franchise history, surpassing the record set during its inaugural season in 2005.

The offensive slump is also starting to become a cause for concern.

Real Salt Lake has gone three straight games without scoring and has now gone 284 minutes without a goal—something the team hasn’t experienced since April 2023.

In addition, RSL has gone 12 consecutive games without a win on the road across all competitions and has not won an away game since March 7 in Atlanta.

Seattle won’t have much time to celebrate.

Their next game will be at Lumen Field again, on Saturday, September 26, against Minnesota United.

An important game for their hopes of climbing the standings in the Western Conference (Filed under: Seattle Sounders End Their Losing Streak Against Real Salt Lake).
