LAFC Loses Patience: Fires Marc Dos Santos With Six Games Left

LAFC (Los Angeles FC) decided to end Marc Dos Santos’s tenure as head coach just nine months after appointing him to the position, a decision that comes at a critical juncture in the 2026 season, with the Los Angeles team still having six games remaining in the MLS regular season.

LAFC officially confirmed the Canadian coach’s departure and announced that it will immediately begin the search for a new head coach. The club has not yet revealed who will take over on an interim basis. “Marc has given so much to this club over the years, and we are grateful for his commitment, dedication, and contributions to LAFC,” said John Thorrington, the organization’s president of sports operations.

MarcDos Santos leaves LAFC with a record of 11 wins, nine draws, and eight losses—for a total of 41 points—after 28 games in the regular season.

Across all competitions, the Los Angeles team has a record of 17 wins, 10 losses, and 12 ties.

Their most recent game was a 1-0 loss to FC Dallas on Saturday, September 26.

That result extended a losing streak: LAFC has managed just one win in its last nine games across all competitions.

Marc Dos Santos had been officially introduced on December 5, 2025, as the third head coach in LAFC’s history.

He had previously worked for four seasons as an assistant to Steve Cherundolo and was part of the coaching staff that won the MLS Cup and the Supporters’ Shield in 2022.

In addition to the 2024 U.S. Open Cup.

The departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for a club that has had only three head coaches since it began competing in MLS in 2018:

Bob Bradley, Steve Cherundolo, and Marc Dos Santos.

Cherundolo managed the team from 2022 to 2025 and led it to the MLS Cup and the Supporters’ Shield in 2022 and the U.S. Open Cup in 2024.

Later, in July 2026, U.S. Soccer named him head coach of the men’s U-23 team, which is preparing for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Now LAFC will have to quickly regroup to face the decisive stretch of the season.

The team will take a break for the international window and return to action on Saturday, October 10, against the Vancouver Whitecaps at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. PT (10:30 p.m. ET).
