Harry Kane surprises everyone with an almost unimaginable dream: playing in both the MLS and the NFL at the same time

Harry Kane is 33 years old, continues to score goals for Bayern Munich, and has no plans yet to retire from elite soccer; however, the England captain is already considering a surprising scenario for the final stretch of his career: playing in the MLS while simultaneously trying to become an NFL kicker. Kane spoke about that possibility on Wednesday, September 23, during England’s training camp at St. George’s Park, ahead of the Nations League match against Spain. The forward explained that a future move to American soccer could open the door for him to try to juggle both sports due to their different schedules.

“Maybe if I’m in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that, it could be something where the two could come together,” Kane explained when discussing the seasons in both leagues. For now, it’s just a possibility. Harry Kane has no agreement with any MLS club or NFL franchise, and he made it clear that his priority remains extending his career in European soccer.

The idea of becoming a kicker isn’t new.

Harry Kane is a well-known NFL fan—especially of the New England Patriots—and has previously spoken about his admiration for Tom Brady.

What’s new is that he now believes the project could be compatible with a potential stint in Major League Soccer.

The Englishman also believes that his experience taking penalty kicks could give him a foundation for adapting to the role of kicker.

Although he acknowledges that kicking a football at the highest level requires a completely different kind of preparation.

Kane said that if he decides to pursue that goal, he would need about six months to a year of specific training before attempting the leap.

He wouldn’t be the first soccer player with a background in soccer to find his way into the NFL.

Brandon Aubrey, currently a kicker for the Dallas Cowboys, was selected by Toronto FC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft before switching sports and eventually making his way to the NFL (Filed under: Harry Kane dreams of the NFL and MLS).

It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon.

Kane explained that the decision will depend on how his career unfolds over the next five or six years, on his motivation, and on what he wants to do when the time comes.

He is currently in his fourth season with Bayern, and his current contract expires in 2027.

In fact, the forward confirmed this week that he is close to reaching a new agreement with Bayern Munich.

Negotiations are ongoing, and there are still some details to be worked out, but both sides have shown a willingness to continue the relationship.

His current situation doesn’t suggest that he’ll be retiring anytime soon, either.

Kane is coming off an extraordinary 2025–26 season in which he scored 73 goals in 65 games for his club and national team.

For that reason, the possibility of seeing him play in the United States should be viewed as a long-term project, not as an immediate move (Filed under: Harry Kane Dreams of the NFL and MLS).
