Arturo “Lobito” Torres Dies at Age 26 After Collapsing Following a Fight

Mexican boxing is in mourning, as Arturo “Lobito” Torres, a boxer from Mexicali, Baja California, died at the age of 26 after spending six days in the hospital following serious complications that arose after his last fight.

The death was reported on Friday, September 25, days after the boxer was rushed to Mexicali General Hospital and underwent surgery for a blood clot in his brain.

What happened to the boxer?

Arturo “Lobito” Torres stepped into the ring on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to face Gilberto “Torito” García in a Cachanilla Promotions event held at Vicente Guerrero Park in Mexicali.

The fight went all the way to the seventh round.

According to a report published by El Imparcial, Torres’s corner—led by his father and coach, Jesús Torres—threw in the towel to stop the fight, which officially ended by technical knockout.

After the fight, Torres collapsed in the ring and had to receive medical attention before being taken to Mexicali General Hospital.

His brother Ángel later reported that the boxer had arrived at the hospital unconscious and had been placed in an induced coma.

Doctors detected a blood clot in his brain, so Arturo “Lobito” Torres underwent surgery.

Initially, his family reported that the surgery had been successful and that the boxer was in stable condition, although he remained in an induced coma and under medical care.

After six days in the hospital, his death was confirmed.
