A Setback for El Tri: César Montes Is Injured and Will Miss the Upcoming Friendly Matches

Lokomotiv Moscow defender César Montes suffered an injury and was ruled out of the Mexican national team for the FIFA international friendly matches against Colombia, Peru, the United States, and Chile.

Montes arrived in Mexico with a torn gluteal muscle, which prevented him from remaining on the roster, and he will return to Moscow to continue his recovery.

Mexican national team coach Rafael Márquez called up América’s Dagoberto Espinoza to replace Montes.

He will join the national team next week, following this Saturday’s match against Colombia.

Meanwhile, during Wednesday’s practice, Santiago Giménez, a forward for Porto in Portugal, trained separately due to muscle soreness that is not considered serious.

So he is expected to join the rest of the group in training on Thursday.

The Mexican National Team held a practice open to the media on Wednesday (Filed under: César Montes withdraws from the national team).

Hirving Lozano, a forward for the Los Angeles Galaxy, and Germán Berterame of Inter Miami—two of the new additions to the roster—trained at a good pace during the intra-squad scrimmages.

The Mexican national team will kick off its campaign under Rafael Márquez next Saturday when it faces Colombia at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.

Their schedule continues on the 29th with a match against Peru at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

The matches on U.S. soil will continue with the game against the host team on October 3 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

And against Chile on the 6th at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California (Filed under: César Montes ruled out of the national team).
