A Devastating Blow for the Yankees: New York Prepares for a Postseason Without Aaron Judge
Por Carlos Rodríguez ·

The New York Yankees are expected to face the Boston Red Sox in a potential American League Wild Card Series without their captain, Aaron Judge, who is suffering from a “moderate” strain in his right calf, putting his availability for the start of the postseason in doubt.
Manager Aaron Boone confirmed Tuesday that the team is planning on playing without Judge, though he left open the possibility of speeding up his recovery if the situation requires it.
The Yankees haven’t ruled out Judge, but his return remains in doubt

“We’re planning for him not to be part of that,” Boone said Tuesday.
“But we’re also at a time of year when… obviously we’d push it a bit if that were at stake.”
“But that’s still a week away. I’m not expecting it, but I’m not ruling it out either.”
Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, retroactive to September 17, after suffering the strain during last week’s series against the Minnesota Twins.
The slugger received an injection of platelet-poor plasma on Monday and will have limited activity over the next few days.
“The next couple of days won’t be much: no running, no jumping, things like that,” Boone said (Filed under: Yankees Could Start Playoffs Without Judge).
His injury sets off alarm bells ahead of the playoffs

Judge explained that the injury affects the soleus muscle in his right calf, an area he considers particularly important for running and batting.
“I’ve dealt with strains before and have somehow managed to play through them.”
“But this one was in a different place, which made it a little harder,” Judge said.
A Grade 2 calf strain typically requires three to six weeks of recovery, a timeframe that makes it difficult for him to play at the start of the playoffs.
“If he’s able to play, then we’ll give him that opportunity,” Boone said.
Judge, who had already missed much of the summer due to a fractured right rib, has played just seven games since his return in September.
In 66 games this season, he batted .241/.360/.511, with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs (Filed under: Yankees Could Start the Playoffs Without Judge).

Yankees Secure Playoff Spot, but Wild Card Looms on the Horizon
The Yankees have already secured their spot in the playoffs, but a win by the Tampa Bay Rays in either game of Tuesday’s doubleheader would allow them to clinch the American League East.
As well as the league’s top seed, which would send New York to the Wild Card Series (Filed under: Yankees Could Start Playoffs Without Judge).
