A.B. Quintanilla accuses his sister Suzette of financial mismanagement regarding Selena’s royalties

American musician Abraham ‘A.B.’ Quintanilla filed a $1 million lawsuit against his sister Suzette, accusing her of failing to distribute all the profits they share from the royalties of their late sister, Selena, as revealed Tuesday by People magazine.

Public records show that A.B. Quintanilla, founder of groups such as the Kumbia Kings, filed a lawsuit against Suzette on September 10 in Nueces County Court in Texas, but the U.S. media outlet obtained the complaint documents, which now reveal the amount in dispute.

According to *People*, the documents show that Abraham accuses his sister of mismanaging Q. Productions Inc., a company created by Suzette to manage the estate and royalties of the late “Queen of Tex-Mex,” who was murdered in 1995 while at the height of her career.

A.B. claims that his sister’s mismanagement—with whom he played in the band Selena y Los Dinos—has cost him more than $1 million, which is the amount he is seeking from her, according to the media outlet.

The lawsuit alleges that, following Selena’s death, her family members and her husband, Chris Pérez, agreed to divide the proceeds from her entertainment rights, of which A.B. is entitled to one-fourth of the net proceeds.

In 2016, Abraham appointed Suzette as the company’s CEO, and she has been in charge of managing profits and revenue ever since, but now A.B. claims he has not received everything he is owed, the report added.

The plaintiff had noted on his Instagram that “the lawsuit is part of a process that began a few months ago, but what led to this point did not start a few months ago.”

“It goes back years. Years of accumulated situations, decisions, and circumstances that for a long time I chose to keep quiet about out of respect, loyalty, and, above all, because it involved my own family,” she stated in the post, which is still available on her @abquintanilla3 account, according to Agencia EFE.
