The run of the CONCACAF teams in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has come to an end, and although none of the three host countries managed to reach the tournament’s quarterfinals, Mexico finished as the region’s top team thanks to its on-field performance and statistics throughout the tournament.

Under the leadership of Javier “Vasco” Aguirre, the Tricolor reestablished itself as the top team in CONCACAF by finishing ahead of the United States and Canada in terms of points earned, goal differential, and projected position in the overall World Cup standings.

Even though Mexico failed to reach the quarterfinals, its performance was strong compared to the rest of the teams in the region.

The team displayed defensive solidity and offensive efficiency, and confirmed the progress it had made during the run-up to the World Cup by winning the top CONCACAF titles.

Although the elimination in the Round of 16 left a bitter taste for the fans, El Tri’s performance allowed them to finish the tournament as the strongest team in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Now the challenge will be to maintain that competitive foundation as we look ahead to upcoming international competitions and the start of a new cycle leading up to the next World Cup.

Where Mexico will seek to take the step it has failed to take for decades:

To re-establish itself among the world’s top national teams (Filed under: Mexico, Best Host for the 2026 World Cup).
