On Thursday, the United States stepped up its humanitarian response to the emergency in Venezuela following the two earthquakes that struck the country, announcing the deployment of ships, aircraft, and military personnel to support search and rescue operations and provide assistance to the affected communities.

U.S. Southern Command reported that the deployment of military resources is taking place after Venezuela’s interim authorities formally requested international support to address the crisis caused by the earthquakes that struck on Wednesday.

According to the official statement, the deployment includes an amphibious transport ship, a combat ship, military transport aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft—such as helicopters—and specialized reconnaissance platforms.

These units will aim to facilitate the transport of personnel, rescue teams, and emergency supplies to the hardest-hit areas.

The commander of Southern Command, General Francis L. Donovan, explained that U.S. military resources will provide logistical support for search-and-rescue operations, as well as assist with damage assessment, locating the injured, and distributing humanitarian aid.

Support for rescue efforts

According to the U.S. government, the deployed forces will work in coordination with federal agencies and international teams already involved in the emergency response efforts.

Operations will focus on speeding up the delivery of vital aid to the regions hardest hit by the earthquakes, where efforts continue to locate survivors amid collapsed buildings and provide assistance to thousands of affected people.

The United States stated that it will maintain close coordination with Venezuelan authorities to determine response priorities and ensure that resources reach the communities that need them most.

The emergency in Venezuela continues

The military deployment is taking place as Venezuela faces one of the worst natural disasters in its recent history.

Authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the earthquakes, while national and international teams work tirelessly on rescue and medical response efforts.

Several countries and international organizations have also announced that they will send specialized personnel and humanitarian aid to strengthen the response to the crisis.

The international community is closely monitoring developments, while search operations continue and authorities are calling for solidarity to assist the thousands of families affected by the disaster.
