Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, visited the state of La Guaira on Thursday, which is considered the epicenter of the devastation caused by the two earthquakes that shook the country. Speaking from the Macuto parish, one of the hardest-hit areas, the acting president stated that the main objective is to rescue as many survivors as possible and confirmed that international aid has already begun to arrive.
Accompanied by Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello and Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodríguez, Delcy toured some of the areas that sustained the most damage as search operations continue among collapsed buildings and severely affected communities.

During her address broadcast on state television, the president announced that Venezuela had requested international support to strengthen rescue efforts and assistance for the victims.
“We hope to rescue as many people as possible while they are still alive,” Rodríguez said as he announced that the first specialized teams from the Dominican Republic had already begun arriving in the country.
He also reported that rescue workers sent by other countries will be joining the effort in the coming hours.
Authorities are continuing search operations while heavy machinery and emergency response teams work to locate people trapped in the rubble.

La Guaira has been the area hardest hit by the earthquakes so far.
Authorities have reported that dozens of buildings have completely collapsed and hundreds of structures have sustained significant damage.
Among the affected infrastructure is the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela’s main airport, which remains temporarily closed due to damage caused by the earthquakes.
The suspension of operations at the airport has forced the cancellation or rescheduling of international flights while technical assessments continue.
International aid continues

Several countries began mobilizing resources to support the humanitarian emergency.
In addition to the arrival of international rescue teams, the United States announced that it would send logistical support and humanitarian aid to assist in search operations and provide aid to those affected.
International organizations are also coordinating the deployment of specialized personnel and medical supplies to strengthen the response to a tragedy that has the entire region on high alert.
As rescue efforts continue, Venezuelan authorities are still assessing the impact of the earthquakes.
In addition, they noted that the number of victims and the extent of property damage could change as rescue operations continue in the hardest-hit areas.
