The new version of “The Blair Witch Project” being produced by Lionsgate will be released in theaters on September 24, 2027, the studio announced on social media.
The film, which does not yet have an official title, will be directed by Dylan Clark, who has worked on short films such as “Home Movies” and “Transfigure.” No details have been released about the plot or the cast.
The stars of the original film, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, as well as the directors of that project—Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale—will serve as executive producers on this production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The production had been announced at CinemaCon 2024, where Lionsgate and Blumhouse highlighted their intention to reinvent horror classics with a fresh take for new generations.
“The Blair Witch Project” caused a sensation in the late 1990s

‘The Blair Witch Project’ revolutionized horror cinema in 1999 by popularizing the found-footage subgenre, a technique that uses cameras seemingly operated by the characters themselves and creates a sense of hyperrealism capable of making the viewer question the authenticity of the images.
The film tells the story of three film students who venture into the forests of Maryland in 1994 to shoot a documentary about the legend of a woman accused of witchcraft in the 18th century, but along the way they begin to experience terrifying phenomena that are captured on their handheld cameras.
The creators were also pioneers in viral internet marketing, creating fake websites and forums related to the topic to build a credible urban legend.
The film was a box office success; despite its small budget of $35,000, it grossed more than $248 million worldwide, according to Agencia EFE.
