2026 CONCACAF Nations League: Mexico Awaits Its Opponent—Here’s How to Watch It in the United States

The 2026–27 CONCACAF Nations League is already underway, and the Mexican national team will follow a different path than most of its regional rivals. El Tri, now coached by Rafael Márquez, will not compete in the Group Stage of League A and will begin its campaign directly in the quarterfinals.

The fifth edition of the tournament kicked off on Wednesday, September 23, and brings together the 41 CONCACAF member associations from Leagues A, B, and C. In addition to the regional title, the competition is part of the qualifying process for the 2027 Gold Cup.

The main change in the 2026–27 CONCACAF Nations League is in League A.

The 12 lowest-ranked teams were divided into two groups of six and will compete in a round-robin tournament.

Each country will play four matches—two at home and two on the road—without necessarily facing every team in its group.

Group A consists of Costa Rica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic.

Group B includes Honduras, Jamaica, Guatemala, Suriname, Martinique, and El Salvador.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Panama have earned direct berths to that stage as the top four teams in League A, according to the criteria established by CONCACAF.

The group stage of League A will take place from September 21 to October 6, 2026.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for November 9–17 and will consist of two-leg series.

Mexico’s opponent will depend both on the results of the group stage and on the CONCACAF rankings following the September–October international window.

For that reason, a specific opponent for El Tri cannot yet be confirmed.

The four quarterfinal winners will advance to the 2026–27 Concacaf Nations League Finals, scheduled for March 25–28, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
